Sorry, but files on a webserver can be altered directly. Not allowing ftp access through your site does not stop someone from potentially being able to access files on the server.
When the blogstamp facility allows for the documents, files, etc, that are attached to be verified then it will be a genuine verification tool, but until then it is somewhat flawed to suggest that attached files can 100% be verified simply because the original post where the document was attached cannot be altered without a revision being created.

However once a post is made, the author cannot revise it any way which includes changing any text, music files, images or attachments associated with the post.
The next release of myidea.net will include the ability to revise ideas over time and track changes. Each time an author revises their post, whether it be by altering text or changing the music or attachments a revsion entry will be created with a new timestamp and digital signature from blogstamp.org. A viewable revision history will be availble to trace and compare any changes back to the original version of the post. There still would be no way revise the music without seeing the diffferences between multiple versions of a post. This feature is being beta tested right now.

As far as using this for music files, I believe that the blogstamp system only validates the text content and does NOT validate any attached documents or files, such as a music file. Surely the music file could be altered and the text could remain the same, thus creating a false validation.
Again, my understanding is that this system is NOT suitable for anything other than the text written on the page and NOT for attached documents, files, pictures, etc.

Unfortunately the "poor man's copyright" is really a myth. While it may sound valid, mailing your original work to yourself is simply too easy to be faked or tampered with. Envelpoes can can be steamed open, postmarks aren't always clear and can be altered. To date there has never been a case in the U.S. that has been aided by the "poor man's copyright".
The copyright office is still the best way to protect your work but its process is slow and that presents a huge problem in the age of the internet when infringment can happen in a matter of minutes. This has been a main motivation behind myidea.net- to fill that gap and provide an instant timestamp and third party non-repudiation of your work. This is the best tool for authors, musicians, poets, bloggers or anyone wanting to prove a creation date while waiting for their copyright submission to go through.
