Community Green's first major project has been launched officially on our Website http://communitygreen.org. The "Basking Ridge Certified Habitat Project" has been created to work with the National Wildlife Federation (NWF), the largest conservation organization in the U.S., to promote and certify community wildlife habitats friendly to both people and wildlife.

Basking Ridge, NJ has so much potential with it's extensive landscapes, however conventional landscaping has reduced the natural ecological balance of our land. With more education and a better understanding of natural landscaping and how food, water and shelter provide for our wildlife, we can restore balance and make a difference one backyard at a time!

Our "Basking Ridge Certified Habitat Project" project logo is the Dragonfly, which we plan to use on our site, newsletter, mailings and future promotional items such as T-shirts, etc. It was chosen for it's positive symbolism as a creature of swift, carefree, supernatural powers.

A unique aspect to our approach to certifying Basking Ridge, NJ (there are currently no communities in NJ that have been certified by NWF yet), will be our street by street approach to getting credits toward certification. Starting with centrally located West Oak Street, neighbors will be encouraged to set forth change by working together. By looking toward the mutual goal of certifying a street, then friend's streets, and finally the town, we expect this will expidite certification (which can take years), and gain a higher rate of success in yards, etc. being certified, exceeding NWF requirements.
